Description: |

The main objective of the Bavarian Regional Planning Authorities is to maintain and further promote an efficient system of Central Places even in times of shrinking and over-aging population trends, in order to ensure homogeneous living conditions throughout the entire territory of Bavaria. For the future development of this system it is necessary to analyse and assess the present situation. Therefore, the main task of this study is to analyse the spatial allocation of service facilities which are deemed to be crucial for daily activities, and their accessibility. The study is expected to answer inter alia the following questions: How are the service facilities spatially located throughout the Bavarian territory? Are there any areas experiencing over-supply (under-supply) of certain types of facilities in relation to the population distribution? How is the spatial distribution of such areas? What is the proportion of population experiencing problems in accessing certain types of infrastructures? Are the locations of important infrastructure facilities coincident with the central places, or are there any deviations from the overall planning concepts? Are all central places endowed with the necessary infrastructure facilities, or is there a lack of certain types of infrastructures? Facilities under evaluation are schools, post offices, job centres, tax offices, banks, medical doctors and dentists, hospitals, pharmacies, policies stations, and city centres.
