Zillertal - Accessibility levels of public transport (2008 - 2008)

Description:
For the Zillertal, a well-known summer and winter holiday destination in Austria, external and internal access to public and private services is crucial to attract tourists. This study thus analysed European-wide and region-wide travel times. In order to assess the European-wide accessibility potential and its development since 1980, isochrones for both road and rail networks for 1980 and 2006 were generated based on the available road and railway layers, which inter alias also comprise rail timetable travel times for the two years concerned. Isochrones for raster cells with a resolution of 2x2 km were generated by using Jenbach as the origin. In total, travel times for approx. 1.7 mio raster cells were calculated for the whole of Europe. In a second step intraregional accessibility potentials within the Zillertal for public bus and rail transport were calculated by applying a similar approach, using Mayrhofen station and Schlitters-Bruck station as two origins. The resolution of the raster cells now was about 50x50 meters, resulting in approx. 715,000 raster cells for entire Zillertal.
